The field of artificial intelligence (AI) offers great potential for assisting individuals in acquiring new skills. AI can be used to create personalized learning experiences, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) environments, and more efficient ways of delivering instruction and feedback.
Studies have shown that personalized learning experiences are more effective than traditional instruction methods (Graf, personal communication, May 15, 2020). VR and AR have also been shown to be effective for learning new skills (Dupuy, 2018). Delivery methods play a critical role in the effectiveness of instruction, and AI can be used to create more efficient and effective methods for delivering instruction and providing feedback.
Instructional designers and learning scientists have only begun to explore the full potential of AI for learning. As we continue to learn more about how AI can be used to support learning, we will be able to develop even more effective and efficient ways to help people acquire new skills.
